Mostly quiet and shy, Sumika speaks both English and Japanese. She is into ballet, art, and music. Inspired by the famous blind musician and composer Miyagi Michio, Sumika plays a stringed instrument called a Koto.

When asked by the Professor on the first day of the lab if she liked science, she smiled politely and shook her head "no". Well, that was then! Now, much to her surprise, she includes science as one of her favorite subjects. She had a lot of fun in the lab, and especially liked the experiment they did which made her hair stand on end.

Tyler, Maria, Jason and Sumika did not know each other prior to taking the class. Now, they are the best of friends. The Professor was thrilled to have such a fine group of young people so eager to learn.
